Location: UK only, fully remote

Salary: £130,000-£170,000 ($165,000-$215,000) + significant equity

We’re hiring an experienced software engineer, focused on AI and backend systems at Scroll. We’re an early stage VC-funded team, working fully remotely but based out of the UK. Scroll develops a premium research and writing tool designed for high-trust environments. Our AI assistant produces well-cited, high-quality content for finance, healthcare, academia, and media.

We're a small, fully remote team of senior engineers looking for independent and hard-working individuals to join us.

What you’ll do

A short-term list of examples:

• Build an excellent search and retrieval engine over users’ curated sources. We’re currently using pgvector but eyeing LanceDB.
• Own our context and prompt engineering, making sure the right information is attached to the LLM’s context and that we’re steering the model correctly.
• Develop our evaluation suite, turning production traffic into test cases and quickly gauging the impact of a change on our product.
• Efficiently and reliably stream the assistant’s content and responses to the frontend.

We’ve got more exciting things planned next - analysing spreadsheets, developing specialised reasoning and code-execution layers to support use cases requiring utmost accuracy, and more.

Tech skills we’ll appreciate

These are required:

• 8+ years of software development experience
• Good knowledge of TypeScript and Node.js
• Experience developing LLM-based systems
